Intimacy Gradient

I’ve drafted an intimacy diagram from my IA Summit presentation in 2009. The concept of the intimacy gradient comes form architecture and states that our comfort levels of intimacy change with how public our interactions are. From the bedroom to the porch to the town square. I’ve taken that concept and applied it to social networks in a similar fashion as Socialtext. The examples in my diagrams are merely to illustrate and are not based on any specific data.

You can learn more about Intimacy Gradient in the book A Pattern Language by Christopher Alexander, Sara Ishikawa, Murray Silverstein, with Max Jacobson, Ingrid Fiksdahl-King and Shlomo Angel. Published by Oxford University Press.
